Acute & Chronic Rhinitis

Overview:

Rhinitis is the inflammation of the nasal passages, leading to symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, postnasal drip, and irritation. It can be classified as either acute or chronic, depending on the duration and underlying cause:

  • Acute Rhinitis: Often caused by viral infections like the common cold or flu, acute rhinitis typically lasts for a few days to a couple of weeks. It may also result from bacterial infections or seasonal allergies.
  • Chronic Rhinitis: Lasts for weeks or months and can be triggered by allergies (allergic rhinitis), irritants like smoke or strong odors (non-allergic rhinitis), or underlying nasal conditions. Patients often experience persistent nasal congestion, excessive mucus production, and difficulty breathing through the nose.

Treatments

Medications

Antihistamines, decongestants, and nasal corticosteroids help manage inflammation and congestion.

Saline Irrigation

Regular nasal rinses with saline solutions or a neti pot can clear mucus and reduce irritation.

RhinAer Procedure

A cutting-edge, in-office treatment using temperature-controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy to target and calm overactive nasal nerves responsible for excessive mucus production. RhinAer provides long-term relief for chronic rhinitis without invasive surgery or significant downtime.

Allergy Management

For allergic rhinitis, options include antihistamines, nasal sprays, allergy immunotherapy (shots or tablets), and lifestyle modifications to reduce exposure to allergens.
